February 11 & 12 overnighter......

Post by Cookie »

We are a considering 300 - 500km ride and overnight camp on the weekend of 11th and 12th February, to coincide with DFS returning from Tasmania and before he returns to the mother land.

Route and destination will be decided closer to the day, once participants and weather are known.

Join us for a ride and make the most of the warm nights for a camp out, no open fires, naked flames may be okay if no fire bans.

Watch this space :)

Okay fellow adventurers

It looks like we are all go for the weekend, leaving Saturday late morning, camp out overnight at Logue Brook, Harvey and return early to mid afternoon Sunday.

We are scanning weather reports and trying to choose a route to minimise risk of a wet camp.

Meet at service station on corner of South Western Highway and Nettleton Road at 10.45 for a 11am departure.

Sorry to hear you are out Reklaw.

We are definitely good to go for tomorrow and hatching a plan to cross paths with the McFarkle clan on Sunday as they head southward - we will meet for lunch somewhere in the great outdoors.

See you at Nettleton Road at 10.45am ready for 11am departure, conditions are looking good for Saturday and risk of rain Sunday afternoon for the trip home.

Caught up with the overnighters at Caltex Byford on the way back from a site visit.

Cookie, DFS, Jean, Brian/5, Mackerel Eddy and Ian were all geared up for a windy nights camping. The Ape also dropped in to give final mechanical advice.

On my way to meet the group the skies were clearing and the roads were drying but the wind was a real drama on the South West Highway. Travelling through Serpentine the wind was gusting up to 50 knots in the valleys and then calming in areas protected by trees and buildings. A Victory rider with large front fairing travelling in the opposite direction who was holding his bike against the strong easterly winds moved 5 metres to my side of the road when he hit a protected area of the road. Many large trees had been blown over on the highway. Kingsbury Drive and Nettleton Road were relatively clear of debris with some large fallen trees cleared away earlier. The worst bit of road was the approach to the Serpentine Dam wall that had rocks, soil and leaves washed onto the road.

Chaperoning the group to Jarrahdale I left them on Kingsbury Drive to enjoy their battle with the elements as I headed to Millbrook for a LaVazza coffee.

Hoping the weather improves for the overnight camping.

Returned home around 2pm with a big smile. we had a great time, with the exception of 2 short bursts of South West Hwy yesterday, where the cross winds weren't much fun. Total trip near on 500km with small amount of rain yesterday as we left Quindaning, lower Hotham road was scenic with good view of the swollen Hotham river.

Logue Brook Dam campsite was pristine, $10 per head, free gas BBQ's, long drop loo and sand pads for tents, Cafe onsite incase you run out of supplies.

Thankyou to all, including The Ape, Bozo and Reklaw for checking on us and making sure we got away without a hitch, caught up with McFarkle in Dwellingup on the way back today.

Great it all went well.

Did not hear how Lefty went battling the big rigs and coastal breezes at Uberfest in North Fremantle.
