Camping on the Plain had no appeal...we made it to Cook which has some infrastructure. We camped in the old school grounds.

We were woken this morning by light rain. We may still experience thunderstorms as we head West. Should make Rawlinna by Thursday/Friday depending on track conditions.

Thought of you guys when I was slabbing it in the opposite direction. A big cloud has been sitting over South Australia for the past few days. Monday night when I was at Eucla there was a big storm that dropped 10 mm in a few minutes preceded by massive lightning. Another downpour at Streaky Bay on Tuesday night and three hours of rain on the way to Arkaroola.

I understand that there is a constructed detour at Zanthus due to flooding.

Hopefully that will be the limit of precipitation impacts on your journey.

A few of us were doing telegraph line then up to zanthus.
We came into kal yesterday ... the road east to rawlinafrom zanthus was closed.
However on the way to kal there lots of vehicles heading towards rawlina and the road was dry . Some guy in balidonia said rawlina had 26 mm of rain .
All said and done being motor cyclists you"ll be fine. Bright and sunny to day in kal.

Anyone have any idea why Digger's spot has decided to stop at Reid Airstrip?

Great pictures digger, I would put them up on the website but there are no BMW's despite each rider owning one

Well done Chris for flying the club flag even if it was only part way, speedy recovery and best not follow the forum for while as laughing probably hurts.

Looks like a great trip, I was hoping to get to Rawlinna but I'll not make it, I can't leave Perth until Sat afternoon, I'll keep a check on your spot tracker I may be able to catch up on Sunday. Enjoy the rest of the trip.

The Border crossing on the Trans Con...no fanfare or quarantine inspection out here. No time to waste...gotta try and stay ahead of the imminent thunderstorms.

It didn't just rain...it persisted down. We had no option but to keep riding. The track quickly became impassable so I rode on the side of the track and staked the tyre. Had to repair it in the rain. No fun.

After the repair we continued on...exhausting work and hard on the clutches...using clutch slippage to control our speed. We saw a transmission tower in the far distance and thought there may be some cleared area to camp. We were not going to make Forrest by nightfall.

Image
we got to Reid and saw a windsock...made it to the abandoned air field and set up camp. The following morning was spent drying out; both us and the track.

The track dried out better than we expected and we covered the 30km to Forrest in just over an hour. We refuelled at Forrest...$2.60 per litre but I'm happy to pay those prices. If it wasn't for these Outposts, Adventure Riding would be more difficult.

From here we head to Rawlinna for the Muster but are mindful of the thunderstorms inbound in the next few days (again).
