copy of my post on Advrider today...

I rang Carnegie Stn (08 9981 2991) this morn to let them know that, at a guess & weather permitting, anywhere between 20 & 50 bike riders will be passing thru around 12/8 with most looking to re-fuel. He said they'll be mustering in August so there'll be plenty of fuel available at the station.

I said there might be an opportunity to also sell a bit of cool drink & ice if they had some in stock. It was a terrible phone line reception but I'm pretty sure he never said "yeah, will do" or similar. He did say thanks for the heads up though and said something like "....people can call a few days before if they want".

Last time I was there in May 2016 they had very few cold cans of cool drink and only a couple of ice cream tubs of block ice. So if spirits & coke is your thing, maybe call Carnegie before leaving Wiluna.

Of course, Carnegie isn't licensed to sell alcohol.

G'Day Slackers,

Nearly time to suit up.

Myself and a small group will be leaving the Shell Servo at Gidgegannup on Thursday 10th August for the Raid. Arrive around 8.00AM for a 8.30AM departure. The route there will all be on gazetted roads and will include sealed and unsealed backroads and farm roads. Route will include;

Gidgy to Beacon - Approx 300km of sealed and unsealed roads - Fuel avail at Beacon.
Beacon to Paynes Find via Maroubra Road - Approx 180km - Fuel and limited supplies avail at Paynes Find. Bush camp on Maroubra Road (?).
Paynes Find to Sandstone - 250km - Fuel and limited supplies avail at Sandstone.
Sandstone to Wiluna - 200km - Fuel and general supplies avail at Wiluna. Bush camp after Wiluna (?).
Wiluna to Carnegie Station via Gunbarrel Highway - 350km - Fuel and limited (very limited) supplies avail at Carnegie.
Carnegie Station to Mulgilli Claypan - 150km - No fuel or supplies avail after Carnegie to Claypan.

You'll need a fuel range of 400km as a minimum.

My return route will be via David Carnegie Road to Tjukarilya Roadhouse on Great Central Road - 250km - Fuel and limited supplies avail. From there to Laverton - 300km - Fuel and general supplies avail. After that it is a blur...i'll make it up as I go along.

If you want to tag along then you are welcome to join the group.

Forgot to mention...
You'll probably need a debit or credit card (something with a PIN Number) for fuel at some of the smaller towns for fuel (self serve 24 hour bowsers) and I think from memory that cash is king at Carnegie.

Currently sitting at Rawlinna in the muster shed. Hit the Connie Sue in the morning.
Weather is a balmy 25 degrees with it forecast for 28 tomorrow here.
Hope the weather holds out. Did from Cocklebiddy to Rawlinna today and it was very wet down the bottom. Cocklebiddy had 75mm rain last Monday.
No sign of any water up here though.

Good luck on the Connie Sue...it may take you 2 days to reach Warburton. You should have Telstra coverage at Warburton. See you at Mulgilli.

Reports of it "bucketing down" in Sandstone last night.

The bitumen option for trip north may come into play.

Fingers crossed that's the only time rain changes the plan.

I've contacted local shires and at this stage (Wed 11.00am) the Maroubra Road is still open. They are expecting some rain today. At this stage I am still gunna go with Plan 'A'.

Plan 'B' will be to slab it to Paynes Find but that will be decided later in the day while in transit.

Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."
