A mate of mine in Canberra just bought himself a 2002 BMW 1150 GS.
The ABS unit was an issue. He just dropped me a line to let me know of a company in the USA that services ABS units for a lot of vehicles, including BMW motorcycles, and at a pretty reasonable price
Our 2002 BMW 1150 GS had the ABS unit replaced a few months prior to our purchase. The repair receipt was over $2000...

My 07 1200 abs the problem has been a pump motor the brushes get sticky and open circuit the motor very easy repair but the abs isn't designed to be repaired $3500 thank you .
If the motor only had 4 screws holing it in , it could be fixed in less than 2 hrs in your own shed.

Spacey... were you able to figure out on their website how that mob in Germany charge? A mate of mine has the dreaded ABS light lit up on his R1200. Autoclassic told him its $4000 to turn the light off! Ouch.
Always important to check battery voltage is correct First. ABS light will indicate possible low voltage. How do I know? I have had this problem on a1200 C..
Cheers
Alex
I can support Alex on the ABS failure mode being frequently linked to battery level. I would have had failure mode indicated over 100 times on my 2002 R1200C only to disappear when restarted after running a few kilometres.
This can happen with a relatively new battery in a good state of charge.
My mates GSA has had the ABS warning light on for ages now, I think more than 12 months. But he said he'll now be checking battery voltage before opening his wallet.
Alex and I are are barking up the wrong tree being R1200C owners...I read the bike as an R1200C not a GSA. I did not notice the full stop after 1200. Ignore my last post.
When my 2007 GS ABS Unit failed in 2013 Auto Classic fixed it on a cost share basis ..it cost me $1800.
There are a couple of new old stock ABS units in Qld that the owners purchased from Germany and then the local BMW dealer fixed the ABS up under warranty. They have been for sale for several years and were prepared to negotiate in 2013...see http://bmwmcq.org.au/cms/classifieds.html

Electric voltage is critical to the ABS, ECU and BCM working correctly.
Recently i jump started my K1200S that had a very weak/flat battery.
While the bike started OK it would not run normally and most of the electronic control functions would not work correctly and the bike would shut down very easily and ran very rough.
Indicators would not work, ABS was no working brake servo would not work, engine would shut down rather than idle.
Not very easy to ride when all this is going on.
Good battery = good bike
