It is the 21st Century after all...

Post by Raider »

I finally took the plunge and made a video of a short ride into the hills - Saturday just gone. In the rain without any rain gear. It features my R1200 GS Adventure Rallye X. Just had its 20,000km service so I am getting the hang of it.

And that is not all. Less than half way through the ride the action cam battery went flat so it is just under "half-a-video".

There is more. I got home and put the "half-a-video" together using software I have never used before.

And more... I loaded it onto the Utube channel I have had for about a decade but never used.

More still... I contacted JonO to remind me how to get onto the Club Public Forum site. It has been a while.

And... here it is for your viewing pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7IUmICzqFA

No plans to overtake the Mongrel and his productions. Not yet.

I can see what you have done by carefully combining your land and water interests it looks like you are sailing through the mud and tacking around bitumen corners.

Mundaring Weir is now part of an interconnected system of sources and storages and only provides part of the water to the Goldfields and Wheatbelt. A booster pump at Lower Helena allows water to be tipped into Mundaring Weir to supplement the minimal natural run off into the Weir.

The video is a welcome bit of entertainment on a slow night waiting for the soccer to start and having abandoned the Tour De France when Richie Porte withdrew after crashing.

Bozo,

I hadn't thought of the sailing angle. However, now that you mention it...

Thanks for taking the time to view the video. Appreciated.

Cookie,

I have been inspired to re-engage after the club annual dinner at Jennakabbine.

Most enjoyable.

Thanks to the Committee and all who attended.

Ah Digger.

I had not heard of Avicii until you put his music on one of your videos. Now I am a fan. Didn't realise he was Swedish until my son-in-law pointed it out. He too is a Swede!

Your videos provide musical inspiration for me. Who would have thought it? Keep it up.

Gotta crawl first. Will put together more clips but will keep them simple for now.

Thanks,

Welcome back to the fold, daMille 2...

It's clear that the industry has come a long way.
After countless years, riders can finally see the instrument panel and GPS screen in broad daylight

On your next 'raider' epic, can you ride on a bright sunny day and post video of said TFT panel and GPS in direct sunlight to confirm my hopes?

Good evening spacey1,

The TFT and GPS screens are vastly different. The GPS is a decidedly old-school screen with the usual reflection drawback. The TFT is brilliant - literally. It has some kind of coating / surface finish that virtually eliminates glare. The vision in any ambient light source is excellent. However, I have noticed that the surface is fussy to clean. Even raindrops drying on it leaves a mark. Cleaning with soapy water and hosing off seems to do the trick. However, I have noticed that my motorcycles have an aversion to soap and water…

Oh yes, nice large numbers for the speed. Did you know there is a drop down-menu where you can insert the year your were born and it automatically sets the indicated-speed number size? Bloody amazing.

With a bit of luck you will get to see the TFT in action on a sunny day - looks pretty much the same regardless.

Cheers,

Raider

Was out riding on Saturday and got caught in the dirt when squalls associated with the cold front that swept in hit... Made for some interesting riding along Qualen and Yarra roads.

Thanks for another cruise video on your BMW Vaporetto. Good to see that Yarra Road can sustain its corrugations despite being saturated.

I think it is going to be wet again next Sunday....time for another hydrated montmorillonitic excursion.

Bozo,

Full marks to you for weaving Venetian “little steamer” boats, the “vaporetto” and the French Vienne Department of Montmorillon with its famous “macarons” into a video about riding on wet dirt roads between York and The Lakes.

Are you sure montmorillonite is found in the clays of the Darling Range laterites? Kaolinite is in abundance… Regardless, the water connection to montmorillonite is a beaut!

Oh, about those “saturated corrugations”. Just suppose there were a dozen BMW riders along for the ride and you were the TEC. Just hope there are no thixotropic clays in those large corrugations!
