I’m sitting on a granite outcrop about 300 metres from the Hut to send this...got Telstra coverage from the top of the rock. I should’ve felt better today after resting yesterday in Northcliffe but it is still a grind. I should be in Walpole tomorrow (Friday) a day ahead of schedule but I will be sticking to back roads in some cases rather then on the Trail.

Image
Had a chat to a couple of interesting Adventurers...never quite seen a bike like this one. They are planning on crossing the Simpson Desert unsupported next July. I’m sure they will complete it. They were heading North.

Image
I wonder how many unfortunate cyclists had to hump their bike and gear over this before it was cut up and moved. There was no way around it...I checked.

Sometimes you just have to stop, breathe deeply, exhale and relax.

Lunch break at Shannon River crossing. The water is tainted by tannins but was fresh enough to drink.

Another day down, another day closer to reality. Currently at Walpole after a seamless journey along mostly unsealed road with no traffic to a sealed road leading into Walpole with minimal traffic. Tomorrow night (Saturday) will be in another Hut and I expect (hope) to be in Denmark on Sunday night. Almost time to organise my return journey.

Not all the Munda Biddi is snotty single track thru the untamed bush. Some of it is shared with other traffic on out of the way backroads. This is Beardmore Road which I had to share with this grader.

Image
Fernhook Falls. I was last here at Easter but it was dry then. Nice to see it with water flowing.

The Trail uses some roads that are shared...you have been warned.

Image
No way I was going to climb over that...I’ll look for another way round.

Keep them coming Digger. You are living proof that there is something beyond the daily grind of work, sleep and work again. Did you at any point wish that that you had a 2.2 kW lithium battery, just to help you over the tough hills? John :P

Yes...and no. Some riders have completed the Munda Buiddi on E bikes. They just have to do some precise planning and most take a spare battery. I don’t think I’m too far from considering an E bike...maybe 5 years away. I figure if it allows me to continue what I enjoy then why not consider it as an option. Starting prices are around $4,500.

The end is nigh. Tomorrow (Monday), should be my last day on the Trail. I’m currently at Denmark with 75km to Albany. Indications are that although a long leg, it is doable as it follows good formed tracks or paths. If that’s the case, I should return to Perth on Tuesday by TransWA bus. It’s been tough, it’s been challenging. It’s another tick off the list.

Coalmine Beach at Walpole. Nice to see the coastline for a change.

I stopped at the Tree Top Walk. I timed it well. It bucketed down while I had morning tea.

When the going gets tough, the tough get off and walk. There were long sand sections for several km.

One thing about my lifestyle...I can eat what I want, as much as I want and drink as much as I like. I don’t seem to put any weight on (who would’ve thought).

Sometimes, late at night, I crank up the volume, put on some Electronic Dance Music (by Avicci (RIP)) and have my own Rave Party. Doof Doof Doof.

Nearly came a cropper in some sand during a descent. Thought I was back on the BMW...stand up, lean back and power on.

But first, I gotta rest and fatten up before departure. What better way then to spend a week at Rotto.

Depart Australia on the 16th for Laos via Kuala Lumpar. Arrive in Vientiane on the 17th and commence cycling from the morning of the 19th. Cross into Vietnam a couple of weeks later. Back in Oz late Feb.

SPOT Tracker activated from 19th.

Can not think of a better way to start another slice of adventure than with a vanilla slice from the Rotto Bakery. Looking forward to the reports.
