R1200RT LC coolant leak

Post by Cookie »

A friend recently purchased a 2014 R1200RT LC, and there is coolant weeping from a hole in the left hand side engine housing.
Is anyone aware of an issue with the LC engine? it has only travelled around 40,000 km

Seems to be an issue with leaking seals on the water pump. Some times it sorts itself out. Keep a watch on the coolant level and the dribble rate, crystals or staining.

Thanks for the reminder. I was religious in checking the coolant level when I was travelling through the Eastern States and Tasmania but not recently. I will check both on mine.

Yes my 2014 R1200RT LC developed a leak at the same weep hole in 2016 having only travelled 13600kms. Some of the water pump seals were faulty in that model so Alan Gooch at Auto Classic arranged to have it repaired as a warranty item, even though it was out of warranty, at no cost to myself. Perhaps it is worth your friend talking to Alan and see how generous they are. Bozo is correct in that it needs to be monitored. But my new seal works as designed that is no weeping at the weep hole.

Alan no longer works at Auto Classic. I’m not sure who has taken over the role or if it has been ‘shared’ amongst existing employees.
