Good to see Tim with his bespoke blued exhaust pipe BMW RNineT with its artistically distressed number. Lenny was also there with his immaculate BMW R60. Nannup Nick made a surprise arrival as he had overnighted in Cunderdin.
Six riders headed out to Dwellingup despite warnings from Fiery Ross that it was perfect burning weather. Nannup Nick, Clayton, Rod Rocket Peter, Terry, Peter Bee and Bozo launched themselves in the burnt gum leaves scented hills to weave past control burnt ground to get to Canning Dam. Surprisingly the speed limit just east of Canning Dam is now 110 kph. A stop at Ampol Byford where a beekeeping equipment ute, claimed to be half owned by Peter Bee pulled up for air. A run up the partially burnt Nettelton Road was followed by a stretch of 40kph riding through an active controlled burn zone just north of Serpentine Dam. A tangle with a trio of sports bikes was followed by a run up North Spur Road to refreshment at the Blue Wren Cafe and a discussion about whether Alcoa still controls North Spur Road and Nanga Brook Road.
The group split in two with Terry, Peter Bee and Bozo running through a controlled burn just out of Dwellingup to take the twisties on Nanga Road and Nanga Brook Road to Waroona. Returning through Coolup there was a blue smoke haze shrouding the Darling Scarp.
Fantastic riding weather and good company. Always a pleasure to have Clayton join us. Thanks to Peter Bee for running as tail end Charlie.
Who did end up with $50 for Graham and who is getting married...see next Sunday's ride report.
