Thursday Ride May 19 Mojos Mundaring

Post by pspencer »

With the forecast currently predicting 0 to 1mm of rain it is worth taking the risk  So standard, leaving Gloria Jeans Ascot at 7:45am to glide up to Mojos Mundaring and leaving there at 9:15am ish to somewhere DDD.

B/5, Media Mark and Peter Bee were starters at Gloria Jeans and enjoyed the route selected by B/5 to travel to Mojos where Fiery Ross was munching on his breakfast. The suggestion of Beverley as our destination was accepted and so the fabulous four set off with some concern with the grey sky, but decided not to put on wet weather gear until required.
Through Stoneville, Mt Helena, Chidlow, Wooroloo and Wundowie with sunshine now present, sweet! Onto Inkpen, Yarra and the sweeping Talbots. Arriving in Beverley answered the question wether the roadworks were completed, no, several months to go. But we still had access to the Red Vault Cafe so we grabbed a table outside in the sun. Toasted sandwiches and a muffin were consumed whilst chatting about the normal super important issues of the day, eg nursing homes and reluctant mothers.
Return to Perth via Top Beverley Rd, Northam to York Rd, Spencer’s Brook, GEH to Chidlow where the team separated.
Even with the threatening skies we had light rain only for 3 to 5 minutes at Bakers Hill so a bloody good dry day was had by all.
Thanks to all for the pleasant company and B/5 for TEC duties keeping Mark and Ross in line

Welcome back from your northern sojourn Pete. I never understand why people put off riding when the rain forecast is minimal 0-1 mm eg. With that sort of forecast it's usually confined to maybe one small area and if you are unlucky to come across minimal rain there's normally no reason to stop as it's extremely light and you will dry off as quick as it goes which means donning rain gear is a waste of time. Having said that, each to their own is respected.

It’s not so bad getting wet in the tropics as it usually warm. A lot of our rain here is isolated showers, so as long as it light you can dry out before the next one. The hard bit is guessing how isolated and heavy.

As we approached Beverley the town appeared to be shrouded in a white curtain, although when we entered the town there was no sign of it. As a result, there was a discussion during lunch whether it was fog or low clouds. Most search results gave no distinction between fog or cloud at ground level. Although there were some differentiating between the two on how they were formed. So I settled on a mist. Basically, a fog with visibility greater than 1km and likely to disperse more quickly.

Another great day riding with friendly company
