What year is your GS?
I bought a fixed position GPS handlebar mount a couple of years ago only to find the GPS blocked part of the dash. So I took a different path, on my KTM, but it works on my GSA as well. http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM/ram-b-367u/ + http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM/ram-hol-ga12u/. Check the "package deals" tab on that last link... you'll see that you need a B size Double Clamp plus 1" Ball with Diamond plate as well.
The RAM system gives you a flexible solution for mounting your GPS... and is pretty cheap... and is transferrable should you change bikes.

Hi Wilks
It's a 2006 model.
Thanks very much for the advice. Gives me plenty of options.
Have a safe and happy Christmas.
