Desert Raid is a Bi Annual Motorcycle Rally aimed at getting Adv Riders off the couch and explore some places they may not have been before. The locations are always remote, void of infrastructure and must include at least 250 km of unsealed road to get there. In 2023, the location chosen was Jupiter Well on Gary Junction Road in the Gibson Desert region of Western Australia. About 30 Riders made the epic journey…but a lot more failed in their attempt, myself included.
In this Vid, I try and sort out recovery of my BMW back to Perth in Western Australia and have to get my own sorry arse back home as well. It shouldn’t be that hard should it? Guess again.

To me, the thought of riding 250 km on a dirt road to somewhere where there is no civilisation seems crazy.
You're brave just because you tried it. I wouldn't even risk it. I'm sure you will do well next time when you are better prepared.

Adv Riding opens up a whole new world of possibilities where you'll see and experience things you haven't seen or done before. Sticking to the blacktop for 250km where there IS civilisation seems crazy (to me) and it just goes to show that we are all different. The thing is, I've done both (Adv Riding and Blacktop) and so I can say at least I gave it a go. You're right...maybe I will do better next time if I am better prepared. I guess I just need a bit more time in the saddle. So much to do; so little time!
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
You don't have to have a long neck...to be a goose
As a frequent traveler to remote parts of Australia, I take great pride in reducing the risks and planning for all contingencies. What I didn't plan on was my Roadside Assistance Provider leaving me stranded after a breakdown just when I needed them most!
Grab ya gear; Let's go!
