Hi All, Our good friend Nick Coleman has had an off while riding in Darwin two days ago!
He apparently hit an object on the road which caused a wheel wobble that Nick could not control and he crashed!
He was airlifted to Darwin Hospital by helicopter and is currently in ICU after being operated on Monday evening!
Sophie has given me permission to report on Nicks accident.
As mentioned Nick is in ICU, his most serious injury is to Nicks right arm which was fractured. he crushed his brachial artery which caused a large blood clot!
This required surgery for a graft to return blood flow to his arm, His arm has had to have an external frame fitted to support the bone while it heals.
That is his most serious injury!
He also has Fractures to his Left Hand, Right Foot, Right Knee, Right Ankle and to his lower spine!
Nick is in theatre again today to clean a deep laceration to his right knee and to multiple abrasions to his chest and abdomen!
They also think that Nick has concussion as he is quite confused but they are going to conduct further xrays to make sure!
The doctors are talking of airlifting Nick to Adelaide Hospital where there is a Specialist surgeon (Vascular) but Sophie was asking them to consider Perth as both family and friends are here to support him while he recovers!
I request that you do not contact Sophie as she is understandably very busy communicating with Darwin Doctors and needs her phone free!
I am sure that all our thoughts and prayers are for Nicks full recovery and his return to us safe and sound!

Nick Coleman in ICU
"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains.
Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

Re: Nick Coleman in ICU
A bit of good news for today folks!
Sophie has managed to do a fantastic job and convinced the Darwin Doctors to permit Nick to be flown to RPH by RFDS and should arrive back in Perth today sometime!
Nick is still in a confused state due to his concussion no doubt but he may also be confused about which part of his body hurts the most as well!!!
Sadder news is that they keep finding more fractures in Nicks body but I will update you with more details as they arrive!
I will also attempt to find out when you good people will be able to visit etc!
Regards to All

Thank You Peter and Goldie and to all the rest of you great club members sending good wishes to both Nick and Sophie!!
Latest from Sophie!
Nick is still in Darwin, Apparently the RFDS aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance in Perth!
Nicks pick up may be tomorrow now but I will pass on further developments as soon as I receive them from tireless Sophie!!
Maybe Nicks condition?

Re: Nick Coleman in ICU
Another update from Sophie!
RPH is in liaison with the RFDS and Nicks transfer may take place late tonight but in all probability it will be tomorrow!
It appears Nicks injuries are worse then first reported in that he has suffered compound fractures of his knee and right arm,
The knee laceration penetrated his knee capsule and did some ligament damage as well as fracturing his knee!
The graft in his arm is very positional so he has to have his arm straight all the time otherwise the graft kinks off the blood supply!
He is still confused!
Sophie has done a marvelous job liaising with both Doctors and Nurses and must be exhausted and my heart goes out to her!!
Our mate Nick's recovery is going to be slow and painful but I know without any doubt that his recovery will be made easier with the support and encouragement he will get from our great club members!
