Border Run Update

Post by geoffcnc »

Hi people,
Just checked the recent rainfall stats after being away for a week or so. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW60801 ... 5627.shtml
Looks like Hyden and Norseman have had a fair bit of rain last week, just wondering if anyone has a reliable way of getting reports of the Hyden-Norseman Road conditions. We don't know if it got chopped up by trucks or not.
For those not-so-adventurous (like me for example) , the fall-back position is to camp at Karalee Dam about 30kms East of Yellowdine. This still allows time to get to Balledonia without doing an IronButt ride for Friday night.
If anyone you know is doing the Hyden road in the lead-up to the Border Run weekend, a phone report may be appreciated.

Anyone else wanting to leave Thursday about lunchtime should make contact so we can arrange a ride group.

Gday Geoff

Are you going up to the OCR after the border run. I am still in Darwin and will be travelling to the OCR from here.

Cheers

Know someone going to OCR & spending their first night in Hyden to meet up with some Albany riders - all on BM's I think some may be members. Seeing him tomorrow so will see if I can get a road report from him. He will be there either Monday or Tuesday night next week. Was on Holland track & Forrestania - Marvel Loch (Sth Cross) road a few weeks ago after rain - big mistake, thin gravel layer over slippery clay.
Noel you will be glad to hear had to use some of your GPS training on the track as well. BTW you don't want some pivotpegz for your 1200 do you? will fit 1200GS & GSA 2005-2008 they sent the wrong ones for my 1150. $180

Noel, no time to go to OCR, so hoping to just enjoy the Border Run.

Pete...any reports would be great.

Glad to hear the GPS training got some use. Are you still going to the OCR? I will be arriving on the Friday night. Don't require the Pivotpegs as already have the GSA pegs on mine but thanks for asking.

Geoff
Enjoy the Border Run and catch up when next in perth, although don't exactly know when that will be - maybe October.

Cheers

Noel,
still doing the OCR - see ya there. Have come up with a novel solution for being stuck with the 1200 pegs - buy a 1200 to use them on. Had a 2008 200GSA for a test all day today. Stunning.

Geoff
should be able to get you a bit of a rode report from Hyden on Tuesday from a group heading to the OCR. Also have mate covers that area for FESA & I'll see if he can give you an idea the day before you leave

Good thinking 99 - why sell the pegs when you can buy a bike to match?? Are you taking the Dakar to the OCR and will certainly see you there. cheers

Noel,
agreed to purchase a 1200GSA this morning but will have the 1150 for the OCR & it gets traded when i get back. You'll recognise me easy enough I'll be chanting " must not damage bike, must not damage bike" over & over. Jesse will be on the dakar.
See you there, pete

OK, looking at weather patterns, everyone better have their wet weather gear ready.

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDG00074.shtml

See the maps with rain predictions for Thursday, about all the way to the border, but at least we can expect tail winds (an head winds on the way back remember!!).

Anyone got better connections than I have to order some better weather?
