1977 r100s restoration
Hi guys, have only just joined, here`s a bit about myself, I live in Mandurah, I am restoring a 1977 R100S a bit of a story behind this restoration project, it all started when I was asked if I could help this guy called Pete to do a clean up of his yard and shed with a few of my mates, Pete and his wife are both disabled in wheel chairs, Pete hit a cow up north on his bike, and his wife has cereb - apalsy, by the way Pete is a collector of junk except one thing the BMW that he had in the shed, guess what! he gave it to me, but I must say it was in a terrible state,I didnt know what I was going to do with it wreck it or restore it, after some considerable thought and some good advice I decided to restore it to it`s former glory. I had never owned a BM in my life and had no intention to owning one up to now, so here I am with a machine that I am, well how can I put it, a very well engineered piece of machinery, very impressed. buy the way one thing I have left out till now is that I have got four CB 750 Honda Four`s ranging from my 1969 K model to my 1977 K7, if you know their history they were the super bikes in their time,in summing up the BM is a great bike, I am looking forward to getting it back on the road and enjoying going on club runs etc. P.S. I am looking for someone who knows the wiring on this bike any help will be greatly appreciated, regards Steve.

Sounds like fun, figure patience would be the key element in doing this!
If no one else comes up with some ideas, I hunted the net for the hell of it and found some links..

Guy above sells the schems..
http://doswheels.com/MaintenanceSchedule.htm -< some info from a guy who owns one.
http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_ ... ts_id=2196 <- service manual and Haynes do one as well..
Lotsa info on the BMW riders page and IBMWR pages as well....
Internets fun for poking around to see what going!
O and if you find somewhere to buy patience, grab a couple of kilo's for me too! Be interesting to see how it turns out.

Re: 1977 r100s restoration
Thanks for the info all comes in handy, I have finally taken all of the Jap crap off it, and found and replaced the Jap parts with the original parts, took a lot of hunting. The wiring harness was like a chopped up bowl of spaghet (spaghetti) I have two harnesses one is off a R1007 the other is off a R100 hopefully one will fit,if any one out there knows someone who knows how to get either one of these wiring looms operational on my bike I will be very appreciated. The frame will been sandblasted and painted as soon as this wet weather passes. Then up on the bench and away I go. regards Steve.

Steve,
I'd recommend that if your wiring harnesses are tatty and old, to just bite the bullet and buy a new one. They are 30 years old after all and I don't think they are that expensive. A new one will make your life alot easier in the long run. If you do have a electrical problem, you will never be sure that its not the loom...:0)
I have restored 2 beemers and have bought new looms for both of them, straight up( the one for the R60/2 was rather expensive!) I have an electrical background and know how much a of a pain dodgy wiring is to fault find. Its also not too hard to install a new loom. Everythings colour coded and there is plenty ofhelp on the Net......
