RIDE ON SUNDAY 15-1

Post by bully1 »

I posted this up in Ken's thread but thought I'd better post it up as a stand alone.

On Sunday after brekkie, myself and a few others are heading off to do a loop around Mundaring.

This comes about after a discussion with Davey earlier today, it will be a VERY easy ride up to Mt Dale and beyond, with the focus being on allowing riders with them 1200 behemoths to try them out with a bit of direction from a previous owner. There seems to be many owners of the said machines that appear to be somewhat ''gunshy' and not realising the true potential of what they have between their legs. I'm not an expert by any means ( and many out there will attest to that ) however I have been known to punt a 12GS around, and feel sure that I can show you a little bit of what a big adventure bike can do without going silly.

If you feel up to riding some easy dirt roads and a few trails then see me at brekkie, unfortunatley my sidecar is in at Vinces otherwise I'd ride that, the ride will be that easy !!!

I'll possibly have a few others there as well, Wasp and Barge on their 12 Super 10's and Michael on his 800 Trumpy Tiger.

Nice one Bully,
don't forget to bring tools/tyre valve tool/compressor/ puncture kits etc and plenty of drinking water. Ken could near the back, followed by Ahab who can pick up the various bits and pieces of bikes/ bodies that fall off, plus a few field dressings !!

Don't forget "always dress for the crash"

JP: you coming?.......

we don't mind blokes who wear white boots, ............all welcome

Bully

Great run...a little more technical than advertised but no broken bones just dinged tanks and bruised egos.

The commentary was useful but some times hard to put into practice.

Should be more like this.

Great run out today I really enjoyed. I think lowering
Tyre pressures made a big difference to me. Although I still
Fell off lol.
Nice one Bully great route.

Nice on Bully,

My thanks go to (but not necessarily in order):
1) Bully for putting the run together and the invaluable "tips" on "mastering the GS".........("It's all graded road"... PIGS ARSE !!!)
2) Bully's bro' (sorry forget his name) for the help and encouragement.
3) Chris, JonO and JP for supplying "assistance in getting back upright)
3) Brian, Robbo, Rainer and anyone else that had an "off" (like me)
4) Bozo, whom never came off (despite staying glued to his seat most of the time) but whom I followed and consume several kilo's of his dust!
5) John (quiet achiever) Wightman on the only "road bike" in attendance and putting in a sterling effort
6) Jamie (sure & steady) despite collecting a "love bite" to the r/h side of his tank on a tricky downhill section.
7) Tom (who like Robbo) melted in thick black winter gear and is probably 5 kilos' lighter for it (32 degrees in places) and might just be looking for some summer gear :P
8 ) Anyone else that I've forgotten.
9) My boots for protecting me during my offs (4 for the record)
10) My upper body armour, elbow and knee guards see item 9
11) My padded mountain bike shorts see item 9
12 My Aussie Monkey Butt cream also see item 9

Thanks for a great day out amongst some fabulous countryside, with a great bunch of folk doing what we love to do, (and learning a lot about what the bike can do, (and what I can't..) (yet)

Looking forward to seeing the (sh*t loads of photos of me under the GS) like a shot & wounded elephant

I would encourage any member who's wishing to step out and experience their bike in an offroad situation, then come along next time and join in the fun. Everyone learnt something today.

Well the bikes nice & clean again and the gears in the washing machine. Already looking forward to Wednesday evening's ride :P :P

they were all graded roads ( at some stage of their construction ).

Glad that there were no injuries and that those that had never been to Mt Dale got to the summit. Next time if you like I'll throw in some difficult stuff.

There are a heap of roads up through that area, you could spend days up there.

There were a couple of blokes with cameras at certain points that have yet to reply, I think that they got a couple of shots of fat blokes and fatter bikes rolling in the dust, but I only got a couple up at Mt Dale.

Thanks Bully some great roads and a very enjoyable ride. I reckon there will be some very tired 1200 riders this evening

It all started well, 14 left Catalano's, 12 ended up following Bully to Mt Dale
Image

There was a mix of gravell, washouts, ruts and a little sand, but all good learning material.....Then came the hill!
"Keep momentum, dont stop were the instructions. The big GS will tractor up in second"
About half way a few riders stopped for a rest and to admire the view.
Image
JP walked off to get some photo's, pushing GS' isn't his thing
Image
Sprocket had a little assistance having decided to park bang in the middle of the biggest rut he could find.
Image
Bully wrestled Rainer's red beast, which had a little to much momentum and had ramped the bank.
Image

The ride ended up round 1pm at the Mundaring Weir Hotel, by then the heat and fatigue meant that the water and the energy was running out.
With the hotel almost in sight Davey thought a bit of log jumping would finish the day off nicely.
Whoops! ... But what was that about Jamie getting in the way and you having to lay down the bike to avoid him

Image
1, 2, 3 lift!
Image
hmmm that's going to take all afternoon to clean up again.
Image

Davey those offs must be the influence of the Silver Pig
After all it's been a while since it was allowed out to play, when it saw the dirt it just couldn't resist a dust bath and a good roll on its back

A large cold drink at the pub was bliss!
Thanks All for great company and a lot of laughs.
