Bully... would you be interested in going halves with me in putting together an easy overnighter for this mob to the Caves Hill area after Easter? (not sure if you've set up the DR-Z for distance)

won't be able to do it Shane, specialist tomorrow, and will get the news about the operation, so I think that I'll be armless over the Easter break  only able to ride with 1 arm ( there's a handicap ) never know though I could be a support vehicle in the fourbie.

Hey Koos, you are correct  as above, my cry of

Code: Select all

Does anyone actually have any photos of me upright ?

It's boring seeing all these photos of me horizontal (sleeping)
I'm being lampooned and pillaried as an unfortunate victim of the "gang photography mentality"  by several swarthy and dubious characters that would use some recent unfortunate "incidents" that just happen to be recorded digitally and shown for the main purpose of "taking the piss"  instead of smothering me in sympathy. 8) 8)

All of this is in support of Bully being nominated for the "Rutted Hill Credibility Award 2011" a companion to the Street cred Award. It is an award for some thing in hind sight I should not have done to others when photographers were present.

Sorry if you feel the focus of the campaign but there is a lot of close competition from Ken as at least Bully made sure the group had water, a satellite phone, was only briefly confused about where we were and no fibulas were fractured.

I will send you a picture on Mount Dale where you are vertical.

I feel your pain and I am just as upset as you. The above photo was taken by me and yet I have not received appropriate recognition for it.

I am seriously thinking of bringing up such incidents at the next club meeting i.e. "the unauthorised use of a photo which contributes to the ongoing development of appropriately planned excursions".

Davey and Other Unfortunate Behemoth riders of the Hill of Despair from the newly renamed "WA BMW Hill Walking & Wallowing Club"
I take my hat (er Helmet) off to you!
For a first venture off road on such a large (read bloody heavy) motorcycle you all did amazingly well. When I saw the conditions  (sorry Bully) I was very glad to be riding the "chook chaser" (DR650). A big ask for a first foray onto the dirt! Had that been the first dirt ride I took my GSA on I would have been somewhat white knuckled (holding on for dear life!) and I am certain I would have fared no better than any of you. Those ruts seem to hold a magnetism for the GS front wheels and when they meet there's no wrestling them back... GS +1 Rider

Lets hope Shane gets the Cave Hill ride organized and that it provides a more amenable and GS friendly experience

Not to say I didn't enjoy myself Bully, I had a great time and would like to do it again (on a cooler day ).

Cheers

Hi All,
Just like to say thanks to Bully for a good day out, great way to get to know what the GSA can do and what the rider can not. It was scary, realllllly scary and at times I was thinking "there but for the grace of god go I".
The hill was one thing but for the rest of the ride, deep ruts, filled with gravel like ball bearings, the front wheel just all over the place. Going down hill fast, too fast at times, did not know how to slow down, for my level of skill anyway but I made it with only one off and a bit of gardening along the way it's nice to smell the wild flowers at times.
The GSA was just doing her own thing , I was not in control I don't know, the big BMW had taken over like a demon on speed doing her thing the one she knows best, keep driving forward.Bully asked me at the Mundaring Hotel if I had learned something and I said yes(I just don't know what?)
I am feeling a bit sore all around and have found muscles that I never knew I had.
Still I think we all had a good time and a few scratches on the beast, that's what it's all about. If I wanted to ride just on tar I would have bought a K1300R.
Just in closing: Riders skill and fitness levels require a bit more attention in my case anyway.
See you on the road (to adventure) I hope.

Well then the specialist told me today that he doesn't want to operate just yet, just more Cortisone ( not sure if that means "tuff'n up Princess "or not ).

Sooooooooooooo.............. that means that I'll be riding for a bit longer 8) perhaps I might take Davey the horizontal out to find a bit of easy stuff to take you blokes out again on Febuary 19th, I'll have the PD back so will have water, food ( deckchair, camera crew ) etc on board.

Crucify me if you wish but it was still a fun day,......................................wasn't it ??

Davey

I am happy to go for an easy ride on Sunday 22/1 all the way along Ashendon Road from Mundaring Dam to Albany Highway with a possible short diversions on to 4 Ways Road or the Scenic Drive.

Ashendon Road is all good gravel apart from a short transit of bitumen along Brookton Highway but is a good entry point to more challenging rides.

A diversion along the Scenic Drive in the section between Brookton Highway and Albany Highway takes you into old rail cuttings for Millars and because it is an old rail formation it has no (rutted) hills.

Four Ways road and Leona Road go all the way through to a power line alignment that brings you back on to Brookton Highway....it is a bit more challenging as there is quite a bit of sandy road at the eastern end. So I would only just do a bit of exploration of the Western end of Four Ways road.
