Trip planning
Trip planning
Hi Guys
Can anyone point me in the direction of a web site that you can use to plan a trip and will give the positions of fuel stops. Me and the missus are going on a little camping trip to Geraldton this weekend.
cheers

Re: Trip planning
The WA fuel watch site has a trip planner under the price search tab. http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/fuelwatc ... anner.jspx

Re: Trip planning
Hi Pete
Every town along both the Brand Hwy and Indian Ocean drive should have stations (but don't quote me!)

Re: Trip planning
I plan my trips using google maps. Knowing the range of my bike, using a very conservative number to allow for wind, extra weight and my speed etc, I look up towns within that range. I then use google search and type in "petrol at ......." ( the town I am interested in) and it usually says if there is a petrol station. Finally I call them and ask them when they are open to make sure. I sometimes carry 5 litres if I am concerned that I may be cutting it close, but have never used it for myself but have helped others who have run out.
Other sources are locating tourist centres in areas on the Internet and calling them to find out and most of the major petrol companies web sites have locators where you type in the town's name or the post code and they give you the details. I call them if I have any doubt.
Fuel consumption is very speed dependent so if in doubt drop your speed.
To be honest when I went to Geralton I didn't plan at all as it seemed to be a well travelled route and I assumed there would be petrol in most major towns.

Re: Trip planning
Cervantes and Jurien Bay both have fuel on the Ocean drive as does Dongara, unless you are on a postie bike then you should have the range for that, on the return trip there are many roadhouses coming down the Brand.
Re: Trip planning
Thanks for the reply guys. I'll try the google maps method. I assumed fuel would be good along that route.

Re: Trip planning
These are all well used major roads so fuel stops are frequent and fuel is as normal. Most servos on those roads have PULP as well as unleaded. It's always a good policy if on an unfamiliar road to refill well before you near empty, preferably soon after you have used half a tank, your good lady will probably appreciate the break... good for brownie points!
What are you riding and what size tank do you have?
From memory the longest stretch without fuel on the Indian Ocean Drive is aprox 7 kms. north of Wanneroo to Cerventes all though with a short (6kms.) detour there is fuel as you enter Lancelin.
Enjoy the ride and watch out for speed traps.

I think your zero key is broken Dave.
Re: Trip planning
OK, I forgot the Caltex at Nowergup, so the last fuel on the Great Ocean Road before Cervantes is 18 not 7 kms. north of Wanneroo.... and yes I did mean 6kms. in both directions into Lancelin from Indian Ocean drive

Re: Trip planning
Although limited you can get more from it by
tick the exclude metro sites
expand radius to 20km & best price for 20 sites
As it only gives radius 20km may need to try several routes to get all in the area.
Using Brand and Ocean roads I got Cataby, Greenough, Geraldton, Jurien Bay, Dongara & Moonyoonooka.
You would get more if you try the Great Northern Highway.
