Albany for Xmas

Post by Kalpara »

Hi all - we are heading off on a tour of the Great South West around Albany / Denmark area over Xmas.
We are coming down from Geraldton expecting to leave Collie on Dec 20. We are interested in meeting
up with any other riders who would like to show us their favourite rides. Not sure yet on our path from Collie
but plan on being in Albany for the Ulysses BBQ on Dec 22. Look forward to meeting other riders.
Cheers from John & Ruth

John and Ruth, Were in Bridetown, a great ride to take and it's not out of the way, just a diversion off the South West hwy: when you get to Balingup, turn right towards Nannup on the Balingup- Nannup rd ( alot of thought went into naming that road), follow that road though to Nannup, you have the river on your right all the way, rolling hills, old farms etc, great corners, then when you get to nannup, turn left towards Bridgetown, same sort of landscape, rolling hills, Jarrah forests, you pick up the Blackwood river again on your left, you can divert again to Donnely river mill town, hand feed Kangaroos etc, then take Mokerdillup rd back to Bridgetown or skip the turn off and just head on to Bridgetown.
About 1.5 to 2 hours riding time.
good sweeping corners, watch out for Roo's and tourists.
Good fish and chips in Nannup, Magic Mushroom Cafe in Balingup, Old Cheese factory just out of Balingup worth a look, Pip's cafe in Bridgetown.
Let us know when your coming through, might just join you.
Regards Richard

Thanks for the info - we have done the Nannup River run a few times and love it. If we do this diversion, but went onto Manjimup then flat track it to Mt Barker, how long do you reckon it would take to get to Albany? We are a bit pressed for time on the way down, but will have more time coming back after we leave Albany on the 27 - 3-4 days to do all the meandering we want! Maybe catch up with you then?? Cheers...... R & J

Hi John & Ruth,

We are based in Argyle (153 Marshall Rd, 7km NNW of Donnybrook, off the South Western H'way) drop in and say hello if you have time (you bring the vino).

I have always liked the ride from Nannup > Pemberton. I haven't done it in a while but the last time I went through on a Duke and Ohhh the twists! Hopefully they haven't straightened out the road since then.

Another good one since your coming from Collie would be the Ferguson Valley. Coming down the hill from Collie to SW H'way, turn left onto the Waterloo Rd, then left into Ferguson Rd, follow through Wellington Mill to Lowden. If you don't mind the dirt, coming from Collie you could go down Wellington Dam Rd > Wellington Mill > Lowden.

Give us a call if you intend to drop by.........08 97987300.
