Paynes Find Revisited 10 January 2009
The long awaited trip back to Paynes Find is finally on the cards! We intend to leave Perth (Farrells at 8.00 am) to make the 450km journey up and around the Great Northern Motorway. The intention is to do some offroad riding (but at a comfortable place) and to get into Paynes Find at a reasonable time, so as to pitch our tents and enjoy an evening at leisure in the company of the New Owners of the Paynes Find Tavern, who so nobly hosted us on our last Goldfields scrimmage.
There is a nice old Gold Battery and walks to be done in the PF area. The John Forrest lookout and Karara Magnetite minesite could be some of the "things to see and do" on the Saturday. It's just Ben and me in at this stage but I believe the PF mob will be disappointed if we are less than 6.....
On the other hand, I believe that it would be foolish to go up if its 35 degrees +, to prove what? I suppose a GS would be the right bike and I would probably bring my 80G/S but could easily bring a road bike if others prefer. We could be back home with the goose before lunchtime on Sunday 11th.

John,
Sounds a good trip if the temp is ok. I don't feel like I have a busy life but you keep hitting w/e's when i have other things on. Hopefully next time.
Got a mate who might be interested, he's trying to get confidence up after an off on his 1200GS, but is not a member. Is it ok for him to come along if he wants?

Absolutely. This should be the trip to get his confidence back, as its quite a gentle 2 days, with a moderate amount of relatively easy offroad sections.

Guys,
I set my max comfort riding level at about 36 degrees, but don't be surprised to see me at Farrells......depends on a few things yet.

44 degrees! With 5 of you going, that'll be just enough to divvy up a bag of crushed ice into your camelbaks at each fuel stop.
Here's a thought - if your camelbak will allow it, after a sip, try blowing the water left in the tube back into the bag. Not sure if it'll work, but might prevent the dreaded hot water sip. Oh dear - it just occurred to me that this might be something EVERYONE does and I'm just the last dummy
to work it out.
Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable ride.
Shane

Probably writing this post too late for the payne's find riders. Rode to esperance last w/e & it hit about 40deg. Got these undies for xmas - called cool undies i think. They are impregnated with some sort of menthol based cooling "substance". Anyway if you feel a little hot stand on the pegs for a bit to let the air circulate thru the vents in your pants & when you sit down again your nether regions stay very comfortably cool for the next 15-20 min. Bloody brilliant

Skins Beyond Reason ICE heat defeating technology half tights. Available from sports stores, got mine from AMART. Expensive I'm told but the boys are worth looking after I reckon.

It's called going comando Ben, just don't sit down suddenly. It's safer to keep your friends close.
Wish I was with you guys, and oh, have a ball.

Happy to hear you didn't melt and that you had a good ride. I may have to apply for a government grant and see about a plaque now that you have performed the initiation ceremony for my sacred ( or was that scarred ) site. Perhaps I will frame my special bash plate for the annual award for the best surviving get off. The year has only just begun , altho mine was last year. And yes it is important for some photographic evidence.
Aside from that I am greatful to you all for following the ride rules when I was with you, I got to meet some great nurses (and Doctors).
