Just been chatting to a mate back in England who is getting his gs adventure' ECU remapped, they claim it will give smoother and better performance, slightly better than a power commander.
Does anyone have experiences of te same here ??

Can I offer some advice but at the same time save you some money.
Alot of people spend alot of money changing their bikes to get better performance out of it.
Only trouble with that is, there are not alot of people around that can notice the difference or use the power changes you have just paid for.
Learn to ride the bike you have first. And if you can out ride the bike. Then make the changes.
I know this makes me sound like a prick, but not to many people can use or handle the bikes the way they are now.
Why try and get more power when they can't handle the power it already as.

I'm not so sure he was asking about power increase Mike, but he may have meant that and if he did, I concur with you. But smoother and better performance was what CAdams mentioned and maybe that means he's not looking at competing at the next Dakar on his 1200, just a getting type of performance that suits him.
CA... I've got the Wunderlich power commander (WPC) fitted. Also I have removed the catalytic converter from the exhaust. I knew that the combo of Unifilter (with no pre-filter) and no cat would make the bike run lean (and it did). The lambda sensors didn't compensate enough. My GSA was noticeably flat just off idle. I was able to fix that via the WPC. My current WPC setup has the bike running ever so slightly rich at highway speeds and richer at low rpm. That means I'm getting beautifully 'even' acceleration away from a stop, that is, no flat spots. It is better than stock. And at higher speeds, throttle response has less lag than stock. It is exactly what I wanted.
Whilst there are other ways to get the air/fuel balance right, my logic is the WPC gives me greater flexibility should I decide to make other changes (eg muffler) in the future... or more importantly... if I wanted to revert to stock.
Another feature of the WPC is the ability to tweak the settings anytime to suit your riding, which may change over time. My guess is remapping wont give you that flexibility.

Indeed, I'm not after power.

I have an 09 GSA with a full Akrapovic exhaust (no cat). This exhaust is a straight fit without requirement to change the fuel mapping. As confirmed by BMW who offer the same system as an aftermarket option. I also have a Booster Plug fitted, not because of the exhaust, in fact it was fitted earlier. The booster plug fixes the slightly snatchy acceleration off idle that the standard config provides due to lean fuel mapping for emmissions compliance. With the booster plug fitted it accelerates smoothly from idle and has better low speed low rpm characteristics. The booster enriches low rpm fuel mix, resulting in slight increase in fuel consumption, in my case from average of 5.0l to 5.1l per 100 round town.
The booster plug costs $140 and is a 15 minute fit and removable just as quick. It plugs in line with existing sensors and requires no mods to the bike ie fully reversible fitting. I would suggest this will give you the results you are after for far less than re mapping or even a power commander. I am not the only one in the club to have tried these. Mike H with his HP2 is also well pleased with the mprovements this made to his bikes handling.
Ps no decel popping on my bike unless the restrictor is removed from the muffler

I believe a company called Hilltop Motorcycles do a lot of remapping in the UK.
Wouldn't mind getting mine done as I have a full race akro system on my bike.
