Suspension upgrades

I have recently upgraded the suspension on the R80G/S with some YSS parts from Munich's.

The original rear shock was replaced (after ~165,000kms) with a base model YSS monoshock with adjustable rebound for $440.
This shock is adequate, but probably undersprung for my weight.
The top rubber mount bush started to flog out over the Anzac weekend on the Mt Ragged track in Cape Arid NP. That was replaced by Munich with a bonus comment from Bruce "That base model shock isn't meant for extreme use"! There is a more costly version with a larger diameter shaft and more adjustability.

The front forks were upgraded initially with progressive springs ($155), which didn't make much of an improvement.
What really made a difference to the front end was fitting YSS PD fork valve's for $160 a set. They are a pretty much a copy of the Race Tech Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators.
These take a bit of effort to install but really do work.
They are available in different sizes to suit any damper rod style fork. Only the diameter varies, fit them in forks by BMW, Marzocchi, Cerianai, whatever.

I read with interest the info about your front end upgrade on the g/s front end

interesting that the valves had such an effect on the handling.

After having the plugs in place for a few months are you still happy with how they work?

I ask because most of what you read regarding the upgrade of g/s fork involves complete new systems from KTM donor or the likes. This of course open a whole can of worms like changing swing arm etc.

So i am interested to hear if you still think it was a worth while exercise

I was more than happy with the YSS PD fork valves, a very good value for money improvement.
But they are an only incremental improvement that helps get the most out of a pretty basic fork and shock combination.
It doesn't turn the 80G/S into a MX bike, you still need to ride to its limitations.
