Hi again all. My recently purchased 1998 1100 GS has 71K on the clock. I 'm getting a very noticeable rattle from the left throttle body at low revs. Been reading some posts on US sites that refer to throttle body repair kits (shafts, bushes etc.) being available. One post I saw mentioned them being available from Bing. Other US after market outfits seem to do them too. Any of us locals know of such kits being available locally or of any overseas suppliers that will post to Australia? Also be interested to hear of any experiences anyone may have had with this issue and repair kits.
Cheers all. Look forward to hearing from you.

Do you need a throttle body repair?
It usually takes a lot more than 70k wear and if it does its only the rh side as the left has the additional support of the Tps What are you hearing to make you think you need a throttle body -usually the wear on a throttle body is on the shaft of the 'butterfly' or bush end of the shaft and this usually makes a ticking noise as the butterfly vibrates.

Hi Thumper. Thanks for your response. The sound is a lot more than just a ticking it is a reasonably loud rattle. The reason I think it is coming from the throttle body is that I can hear and feel the knocking in the throttle body. I 'm pretty sure it is not coming from the motor. I have read widely that usually it is the right side that goes first and after 100+kms. This though is definitely the left side. Are you going to be there in Vic Park for a coffee this Sunday morning? If so I'll buy you a coffee and let you have a listen. See what you think.
Cheers

Have you joined the club yet???????
Most problems can be solved with a suitable application of throttle!

Re: GS 1100 throttle body repair and other rattles
I've spoken to Vince at Bassendean. What a helpful bloke! Based on the quick test he told me about (press on throttle cable pulley and if knocking stops it is the usual rattling throttle body problem) it does seem to be the throttle body rattling. I described how loud it is to Vince and he seems to think it is unusual for it to be that loud.
My aim in calling him was I'd read he could do a fix. He says he used to do a fix, using an ' o' ring, but no longer does it because it was possible for the throttle to jam once the fix had been done. Obviously not a good thing. Anyhow I 'm taking it over to him on Tuesday for him to have a look/ listen. He says he'd just live with it. He also did not seem to think it was anything unusual for it to be rattling after only 70,000km. He was however surprised it was the left and not the right side. Anyhow we'll see what he says and I 'll post it. I do see Munich MC are selling something called a Ticker Killer. Not sure if it is a new bush kit or similar. I 'll call em and find out and post their response. Vince had not heard of the product from Munich M/C either.
Cheers to all who have replied. Big thanks especially to Thumper and DFS for their helpful responses.
