Battery Life?

Post by Swampy »

What is the general consensus of opinion guys on the general life of a GS 1200 battery which is kept constantly charged and is not abused by use of
added accessories etc ??

I have heard it said that 18 -24 months is normal
However my first GS did 4 years and was still going strong
My Current GS did 3 years and wanted a new one.

Generally if you look after a battery and don't let it get totally discharged too often or have some sort of parasitic drain problem then I recon they should last a minimum 24 months and more like 48-60

Now you will tell me different I'm sure!

Not Really Jono, As far as I'm aware my battery is the original and has been in service since 2009. Seems to take a little longer to kickstart the motor recently.

I am curious as I don't want to be caught short in the middle of no where with a flat battery any time in the near future.

Cheers Swampy

I have only just replaced the original battery in the 1200gs first registered in December 2007....5years life.

My wife has a BMW Car and the original Battery lasted for over 10 years.

Try using the little button near the right hand side of the handlebars...much easier than a kickstart

My bike is a 2004 model rockster 1150R.... Got it in 2006..... I assume the battery is from new.... It is now 2013 and still going well.... And none of this fancy trickle charging while its not being used either.
