I will be doing the Border again this year on my 650/800 ( brilliant marketing strategy BMW ).
Its a doodle, you will make the Hyden to Norseman bit without carrying extra fuel, such is the economic consumption.
Don't foget the Airhawk though.
I don't know first hand but I would suspect most of the roads into that area and the national park would be gravel
The closer you get the sandier? I will ask around on Sunday morning and see if I can get some more info
Use google maps " terrain maps "and you will be able to see the tracks in photographic spender . The border village isn't far away so why would you want to camp there anyway?

Well that settles it then.
Next question. Anybody leaving on a relatively "old bike friendly route" departing on Friday morning 2 August?
I am FIFO flying in on Wednesday night, so have Thursday to pack her up and kiss the wife G'bye for an early Friday morning departure.
Would love to team up with someone going that way.
I also signed up for the first leg of the Black Dog Ride two weeks later but only as far as Esperance, as I will have the wife on pillion for that one, and in her condition she would'nt manage for more than a day in the saddle, but is still majorly supportive of the whole "riding bussiness", so its good to keep it that way.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Herman
So,
could we have a show of hands as to who(m) is going, when leaving and planned route? So the "Border Run Virgins" (like me ) can make a choice as to who(m), when, and which way they might be interested in choosing (or going it alone?)
BTW, anyone interested in meandering their return back to Perth to take in any scenery/sights, 'the bight"/whale watching over a couple of days, as opposed to the usual "white knuckle wire tightening fang" to get back in time for work Monday?
I am leaving Thursday morning doing 1000 klm camping on the side of the road with a fire going of to see the great Australian bite and the telegraft station sand dunes and get back to the Bp for noon on Saturday and catch up for Sunday morning breakfast at the Bp and of to lucky bay and Esperance then to perth.
I will be riding like a nana at 100 klm towing a camper trailor .
I am aiming to take the 1978 Matilda R100RT, departing Karagullen service station on Brookton Highway, at about 8.00 am on Friday morning. I should be meeting up with Herman (Van Onselen) Hopefully make the bonfire on the straight, via Hyden and Lake Johnstone, if the road is not washed out. Then compulsory stops at Caiguna blowhole, Bight of Australia and the bar at B.V.
I would aim to make it back to the big smoke by Sunday night, otherwise, may be convinced to pike out at Fraser Range or similar. Pray where is Zanthus?
John
For people looking for the easy option on "Z" its called Zamia and it is just out side the line Armadale / Midland and will see most GS still shinny side up compared to the other Z options of Zanthis or Z Bend!!!!!
You can even do it on the way to or from the border run.
