Are you sure you are up for it???

I found some old RR on Adv Rider....those going on DR13 should read them and look at the track conditions. That way there are no surprises.

Found on another AdvRider post...

"The track into DQB is challenging, kilometers of sand corrugations and deep river sand, then rocky, slow rutted twisty track for the last 18km. We rode in and out to Talawana track in 2 hours, but we were riding fast in the sand, not paddling along."

FYI, the only permit you need for this trip ( I mean the loop most are going) is if you need to transit or stop at Jigalong, not required for Talawana Track, Parrngurr (Cotton Creek), Telfer Rd or any of the tracks west of this area

Bowe,
Good point. I have obtained a permit for my travel and the permits are easily obtained. I would encourage all participants in the Raid to obtain their own permit (because that is the responsable thing to do) but only if they are going in/out via Jigalong.

On another note (and now that i have your attention), for those leaving with me on Saturday 17 August it is proposed to meet at Ginger's Roadhouse (Gull service station) on Gt Northern Highway Upper Swan at 7.30am for a 8.00am departure. We will go to Moora via blacktop and pick up unsealed roads from there. 8)
Regards

Road/Track conditions as at April 2012

Post by Digger »

Found this on the DEC website...if this place ia as remote as they say it is, maybe the track will be in good shape after being graded in 2012....then again, maybe not!!

Road condition and access update April 2012:

Following heavy summer rains, the north-south public access (Telfer-Talawana Track, also known as the Kintyre Track)) through the park remains very rough and wet in places. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are essential. Please be aware there may be eroded sections of track, water over the track, and boggy sections. The track can be narrow and winding, with reduced visibility on some corners.

Please be well prepared for travel in this remote area. Conditions may change rapidly due to seasonal weather and traffic. Washouts, corrugations, surface water, and soft sections often occur. Basic road maintenance grading of park roads is planned for April 2012.

Fuel Availability- Nulligine

Post by Digger »

Have spoken to Nulligine fuel supplier and asked about fuel availability...reckons he has only run out twice in 15 years so we will have to be unluckly to miss out. I will contact them before leaving Auski on the way in. Price is $1.82 per litre at the moment. Open 7am to 5.30pm.

Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."
