Saintly Shepherds Ride Sunday

Post by Bozo »

With fine weather forecast for Sunday I propose to leave Cats at 8:30 am and ride through the country that Salvado and his Spanish colleagues developed as sheep grazing country (yes Bully on the Bitumen):

Chittering Valley
Bindoon
Mogumber
New Norcia
Piawaning
Wongan Hills
Goomalling
Meckering
Quellington
Spencers Brook
Bakers Hill
Perth

Very flexible with modifying the plan and even happy to head in a different direction.

Sounds good. Just so I don't join the wrong ride group, will you be wearing a name badge at Cats?

Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

Six shepherds left the gabbling flock at Catalanos on an absolutely magnificent day for riding heading for the Chittering Valley. Wes, Bill (with the freshly shod Camel), Drew, Ryan, Swampy and Bozo flowed smoothly through the corners like the bubbling Brockman River that ran alongside the road.

The only hassle was a ute that must have had an American driver that chose to drive on the right hand side of the road

A coffee/pie stop at Bindoon where Wes took off home with all his emergency response kit...a shame to have to go to work on such a stunning day.

Five riders continued on to Mogumber and were halted by the smell of bacon and eggs being barbecued on the front verandah of the Mogumber Tavern. A couple of junior cowboys engaged us in conversation about bull riding before we headed off down the Mogumber Yarwindah Road to New Norcia.

A quick inspection of the Bishop's Palace and a lap of the monastery and we were travelling up the rutted highway to Walebing. The canola was getting starting to show yellow and some wattle had bloomed contrasting with the brilliant green crops. A quick fuel stop in Moora then off to Dandaragan.

Dandaragan Road between Moora and Regans Ford is a surprisingly good motorcycle road.

A short stretch of the Brand Highway then on to Orange Springs Road, Cowalla Road, Sappers Road, KW Road through to Lancelin.

Red Emperor and Chips for all was the order and sitting watching the waves break in an Azure Ocean was fantastic.

A brilliant ride and very enjoyable company.

Thanks to the fully name plated Swampy for doing Tail End Charlie duties and to Bill for suggesting heading to the coast

A very therapeutic ride.
Great weather, beautiful landscape, bush green and vibrant, the sea a brilliant blue, the smells of the winter bush wafting in the air and 6000 cc of Bavarian iron cutting thru the landscape taking the 5 riders on a memorable pleasant jaunt thru the wonderful 400 + Ks of Perth greater surrounds lesser used roads.
