GI Day all,
Need new tyres for my bike after our trip last week, running tourances just now which I love, but was hoping to do some off road in the future,Are these Karoo 3 tyres any good, or can anyone recommend something else. Also were in Perth gives the best service and price of course. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Karoo's are great (for awhile) they don't last long though. Look at either the Mitas E09 Dakar or the Heidenau K60.
If you are really flash with cash then get the Conti TKC, but they don't last long either.

Hi Ryan,
I am using Heidenau Scouts at the moment and they are wearing well. Mind you I don't ride off road either but they have good grip.
Might be the way to go for you on "Ryans Express"
"Tyres for Bikes" in Victoria Park seems to be the most popular outlet amongst club members.
Cheers Swampy

Re: Metzeler Karoo 3 R1200GSA
Hey Jock,
I've got the new Karoo 3's on my GSA 2008. Put 'em on back in February 2014.
Run up about 11,000 km at present.
Good traction in dirt. Surprisingly good traction on the tar. Evidence is the wear right out to the furry bits at the edges on my rear tyre.
Even more surprising is the durability.
There is probably another 2000 / 3000 left on the rear.
The front will last too long I suspect. Probably at least another rear, which I will fit soon for the Gascoyne ride coming up.
The Karoo 3 is not a quiet tyre on the highway. But none of this type of tyre are.
I used the Mitas E10's on my trip around Australia and the front lasted the whole 15,000 km. The front was loud and bumpy by the end as expected.
The rear was great on the 800 kms of Great Central Track. But melted like soft butter on the highway from Ayrs Rock to Darwin. It was carrying a big load at 130 km/hr plus.
I tried a Heidenau on the rear for a while. It slipped 'A LOT' on the tar and was fricken' loud. Others say they are very durable which I can believe. Sometimes you want them to wear out
The Karoo 3 is looking to be just as durable.
Currently trying to get another set of wheels to mount round tyres on for tar work. Expensive but cheaper than buying a new bike.
