Re: Gascoyne Cup - Gascoyne Junction August 23
Just back from a most enjoyable ride to the Gascoyne.
Brilliant weather, magnificent scenery, great race event, lots of humour, a few pies, a bit of wine, the odd beer and a few decent cups of coffee.
Fantastic how all the groups finally met. There were only two groups of people at the races totalling around 1,000...a dozen BMW Club Members and Jamie's new friends.
The names I remember who went were Ahab, Jono, Swampy (with nametag), Jamie, Sleepy Paul and Alex, Colin, Bill, Wes, Patrick, Phil and Guy.
A shame Digger was not there to catch Jamie's pirouette and Guy's dust up.
Ran into Canadian HP2 BMW rider Jeremy who was making his way to the Gibb River Road.
Getting in and out of Perth was the most hazardous. Bill and I were only metres away from a rear ender involving a 1 tonne ute likely caused by the front driver coming to a rapid halt when two police bikes passed on the inside on the emergency lane. Coming back vehicles were cutting us off ..the joy of the open road.
The wildflowers were everywhere and the countryside was stunning.
The facilities at Gascoyne Junction were brilliant.
Camping at the race track was organised chaos but there were security patrols and good management.
A great trip...looking forward to photos from those with the skills post them.
